Coast Equity Partners is an experienced and market leading sponsor of multifamily real estate investments. CEP is led by a seasoned team of multifamily real estate investment professionals with broad industry expertise. We acquire existing apartment communities, and then intensely manage these assets to maximize rent and NOI growth. CEP is focused on acquiring underperforming multifamily properties in strong markets characterized by positive job and wage growth, a diverse economy and an undersupply or balanced supply of new construction.

Our leadership team averages over 25 years in the multifamily industry in the Pacific Northwest. We apply that unsurpassed experience and deep understanding of local communities to identify targeted investment opportunities in a number of strong apartment markets. CEP then seeks the optimum balance of risk and reward in selecting investments for our partners, with a sharp focus on preserving capital and producing strong reliable cash flow for our investors. With deep roots in property management, CEP has real world boots on the ground investment and operating experience, breadth of knowledge in multiple markets, extensive industry contacts, and a history of optimizing the performance of the assets we acquire. This considerable skill set allows us to provide superior investment opportunities in a number of markets across the region.

President

In 2004, Mike joined the Coast Group of Companies as President of Coast Equity Partners. Mike’s role is to drive the growth of Coast Equity Partners through the acquisition of investment properties that produce outstanding returns for our clients.

Mike brings many years of business leadership, entrepreneurial drive and real estate experience to the table. He has held critical roles in the strategic management of high growth companies and early stage technology start-ups. From raising capital on Wall Street to buying his first rental property while still in college, Mike brings a unique broad range of talents to Coast.

Mike’s entrepreneurial spirit is grounded in a solid business background. He has designed and managed the development of several mission-critical business systems for fortune 500 companies, participated in the creation of new businesses and nurtured new growth opportunities for existing businesses. Mike has created and grown departments, successfully identified, negotiated, and closed strategic partnerships, managed key client relationships and secured new capital investments for the companies he has helped lead.

Since 1992, Mike has been engaged in the identification, acquisition and rehabilitation of real estate with excellent investment potential. His portfolio of properties includes residential holdings as well as rental properties in various markets throughout the Pacific Northwest and United States. He holds a BS in Finance from San Diego State University and a MBA with concentrations in Marketing and Management from the University of Notre Dame.

Mike enjoys travel, youth coaching, winter sports, water recreation, golf and fishing. He lives with his wife and four sons in north Seattle and is active in his church, children’s school and local community.

 

 

Principal

In December of 2008 Dino Rossi joined Coast as a principal of Coast Equity Partners. Working closely with Mike Harmon, President, and the firm’s co-founders, Tom Hoban and Shawn Hoban, Dino is responsible for investor relations and acquisitions.

Dino has been in the commercial real estate business for over 25 years. He started his career in brokerage of income properties in the early 1980’s. Within a year and a half of his entry into the field, at age 25, he bought his first apartment building and has owned and operated many properties since then.

Dino’s relationship with Coast goes back to 2004 when he ran for Governor of the State of Washington. As that race was getting underway Dino decided to invest with Coast Equity Partners and had Coast Real Estate Services manage his portfolio.

From 1997 to 2003 Dino served in the Washington State Senate, representing most of east King County. By Dino’s 3rd year In the Senate he was the Deputy Leader of the Senate and the lead republican on the state budget writing Ways and Means Committee. As Chairman of the Senate Ways and Means Committee, Dino received numerous awards for balancing the largest deficit in Washington State history without raising taxes and still protecting the most vulnerable. Dino also received the “Guardian of Small Business Award” from the National Federation of Small Business and the coveted “Jim Matson Award” from the Association of Washington Business.

Dino graduated from the Seattle University, with a degree in business management and now serves on the Deans Advisory Board for the Seattle University School of Business. Dino also serves as a board member of the Special Olympics of Washington. Dino and his wife Terry reside in Sammamish, Washington with their four children.

 

 

Principal

Tom has over twenty years of experience as a property manager, real estate advisor and investor. Before founding the Coast Group of Companies, Tom spent three years as a commercial lending officer at a major national bank, located in Seattle.

Tom holds a BA in Business Finance from the University of Notre Dame.

Tom is active in his community, maintaining affiliations or board positions with: The Rotary Club, American Cancer Society, March of Dimes, Providence Children’s Foundation, University of Notre Dame Alumni Club Board, various Apartment Operator’s Associations, Boy Scouts of America, The YMCA, The Boy’s and Girl’s Clubs of America, and many others.

Tom has been nationally published and writes a monthly commercial real estate column for The Snohomish County Business Journal and other regional publications. He is a frequently quoted source of real estate market information for a number of newspapers and publications. Tom has previously been featured as a host of his own real estate radio talk show and is a regular guest on the nationally-syndicated Tom Kelly “Real Estate Today” show. He wrote and teaches the Washington Association of Realtor’s only two approved property management courses. Tom is licensed with the State of Washington as the required Designated Broker for Coast|Sperry Van Ness.

In 2003, Tom and Shawn Hoban were named “Co-Persons of the Year” by their alma mater, The University of Notre Dame, for their professional and personal contributions to the community.

 

 

Principal

Shawn Hoban is Co-Founder and President of the Coast Group of Companies:

Shawn is responsible for the operations of property management, asset management, sales and leasing, and investments for the Coast Group of Companies. Under Shawn’s leadership, Coast has advanced its operations to over $3 billion in assets under management or ownership.

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Finance from the University of Notre Dame and is a Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM) and a Certified Property Manager (CPM) with the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM). Shawn is licensed with the State of Washington as the Principal Broker for Coast Real Estate Services and holds a State of Oregon Property Management license.

Shawn is among the very few recognized as a “Top 40 Under 40” Business Executive by the Puget Sound Business Journal.

His industry and community service roles extend to his work as a Director of the University of Notre Dame Alumni Association, The Institute of Real Estate Management, Entrepreneur’s Organization (EO), The Rotary Club, Council for Affordable and Rural Housing, Archbishop Thomas J. Murphy High School Board of Trustees Chair and Co-Founder of Board of Regents, Fulcrum Foundation Board of Trustees, Providence Everett Children’s Foundation and City of Everett Board of Review.

Shawn and his wife, Kathie, enjoy travel and outdoor recreation while following the active lives of their four young adult daughters.

 

 

Vice President

Josh Jansen is a principal with Coast Equity Partners and serves as Vice President of Acquisitions for the company. Josh’s duties and responsibilities for CEP include: sourcing investment opportunities, underwriting, market selection, analysis and acquisition due diligence.

Prior to joining Coast Equity Partners, Josh was a national award winning broker and Director of Coast | Sperry Van Ness’ multifamily sales group, where he was the top producer for the firm and directly involved in transactions exceeding $150m. In 2010, Josh was honored with the “Partner’s Circle” award from Sperry Van Ness International (“SVNI”) for finishing the year as one of the Top 10 Producers in the nation for Sperry Van Ness affiliated firms. Josh garnered national recognition in 2009 for his leadership and sales skills as a “Market Dominator” and “Prospector of the Year” as well as earning the “Achiever’s Award” for finishing as a Top 20 Producer for SVNI.

Josh attended Occidental College in Los Angeles, where he earned a BA in Politics, as well as All-American honors as captain of the football team. Prior to joining Coast | Sperry Van Ness (“CSVN”) in 2006, Josh played football in the CFL and spent four years as a commercial lines producer for a local insurance brokerage firm.

In his spare time, Josh is a busy father of two, plays softball, and is a physical fitness enthusiast.
